Passport of Graphic Designers

“Passport of Graphic Designers” is a booklet in the format of a passport. This passport would be distributed in design conventions to inform designers about their website’s carbon footprint and how they can improve on it through their design decisions.

Its purpose is to inform designers on how we use more energy on our website and what they can do to be more conscious of their design choices. Instead of shifting the focus to a purely analogue way of working, my outcome is trying to bring awareness about the repercussions of our digital presence.

Title: Passport of Graphic Designers

Topic: Strategy & Identity (Year 3)

Year: 2022

Within this passport, the content would include some factual information on carbon footprint and its correlation with websites as well as what designers can implement into their design strategy to improve its energy efficiency.

Data also shows how the airline industry creates a larger carbon footprint when in reality, the aviation industry contributes to 2% of the world’s carbon emissions, while the digital industry contributes 4% (Smith, 2020). So, stamp designs in the passport would create a connection between the aviation industry consuming less energy than the digital industry. The stamps within the passport detail the amount of carbon footprint produced by the designer’s website and the amount of carbon footprint produced from their flight journey to the design convention.
